Introducing our new CEO

21 October 2024

The Southern Migrant and Refugee Centre (SMRC) Chair Ponniah Anandajayasekeram along with the Board are delighted to announce the appointment of Jim Mullan as Chief Executive Officer, effective 21 October 2024.

Jim was chosen from a highly qualified, diverse pool of candidates through a robust recruitment process. Jim has worked with governments, NGO’s, peak bodies, corporates, not for profit and academia across Europe, the Americas and Asia Pacific regions. He has held executive positions in not for profit and major social enterprises for over 20 years, including as CEO for two Australian charities, Secondbite and Amaze Inc.

Most recently as CEO for Amaze Inc., Jim has been at the forefront of Autism advocacy and policy development in both Victoria and more widely across Australia. He is a current member of the NDIA Autism Advisory Group and a Ministerial appointee to Victorian NDIS committee. He was granted a Distinguished Talent Visa by the Australian Government in recognition of his work internationally in the field of social enterprise and community development.

Jim said “I enjoyed my time at Amaze which is a great organisation doing important work, but I have missed the tangibility of working directly with people and communities on a daily basis seeking to support their aspirations and help build their lives”. He added that, “Working with the team at SMRC to make a positive contribution to the lives of migrants and refugees across south-east Melbourne and beyond through access to opportunities and the creation of connection, feels like a worthy and important next step in my Australian working life”.
