Affordable hydrotherapy supporting healthy ageing and independence
Staying active and connected can make a meaningful difference to our health and wellbeing as we age.
Diverse Care by Southern Migrant and Refugee Centre (SMRC) is helping older community members build strength, confidence and independence through an affordable Hydrotherapy Program in Dandenong.
At just $14.80 per session, with each session valued at $200, the program makes specialised support more accessible for eligible older community members.
Supporting strength, mobility and wellbeing
Many people over the age of 65 experience declining muscle strength, reduced mobility, and ongoing pain after illness, injury, or falls.
Hydrotherapy provides a safe, low-impact exercise option that supports both physical and emotional wellbeing.
The Hydrotherapy Allied Health Program is a structured, 12-week group program led by a qualified Exercise Physiologist with experience supporting older adults. Sessions will focus on:
- Building muscle strength after illness, injury, or falls
- Improving flexibility and mobility for daily activities
- Enhancing balance, coordination, and agility to reduce falls risk
- Supporting pain management with water-based exercise
- Boosting mental and emotional wellbeing through group participation

A positive experience for participants
For program participant Kumar, hydrotherapy has supported both his physical wellbeing and his connection with others.
“The Hydrotherapy Program has been a really good experience. The friendly staff and expert guidance helped me manage my arthritis, and I now feel happier and more positive. Being part of a group has been motivating too. I’ve made new connections and achieving my personal goals has given me a real sense of accomplishment. I would highly recommend this program to anyone over 65 looking to improve their wellbeing.”
