Message to the Nepalese Community

Statement of condolence and solidarity with those affected by the disaster.

The Southern Migrant and Refugee Centre (SMRC) extend its deepest condolences, compassion and solidarity to the Nepalese community following the devastating floods in Nepal. We are also thinking of the 42 Australians and all others from around the world who are still missing and their families anxiously waiting for further information.

We are deeply saddened by the loss of life, the destruction of homes and livelihoods, and the hardship being experienced by families and communities affected by this disaster.

Our thoughts are particularly with those who have lost loved ones, those who have been displaced, and all those facing the difficult task of rebuilding their lives. We also acknowledge the courage and dedication of those involved in rescue, relief and recovery efforts.

As a multicultural organisation committed to inclusion, compassion and community connection, SMRC stands firmly with the Nepalese community in Victoria ,with the people of Nepal and those visitors who lost their lives during this difficult time.

In moments of tragedy, the strength of community and the compassion of others can provide much-needed comfort and hope. We encourage the wider Victorian and Australian community to stand alongside our Nepalese neighbours and the others affected by this disaster and offer whatever support and assistance they can.

Our hearts are with the people of Nepal, the Nepalese community and the Australian families affected by this disaster. We grieve with those who have lost loved ones, stand with those affected, and extend our sincere hopes for healing, recovery and renewal.
