The Southern Migrant and Refugee Centre (SMRC) has been featured in a recent Dandenong Star Journal article, highlighting the ongoing impact that lengthy family reunion processing times have on refugee and humanitarian communities.

The article includes comments from SMRC Deputy Chairperson Wicki Wickiramasingham, who spoke about the emotional and practical toll that prolonged separation places on families rebuilding their lives in Australia.

As Wicki said, ““Without the support of close family, many refugees struggle to fully participate in work, education and community life.”

“Family reunion is essential – not optional – for rebuilding lives after displacement.
