Driving Program

SMRC’s driving program supports refugees and humanitarian entrants in gaining their Victorian driver’s license, helping them become independent and confident drivers.

About the Driving Program

The Driving Program provides essential knowledge on road rules, traffic laws, and safe driving practices, supporting participants throughout the licensing process. This program helps participants:

  • Understand Victorian road laws and traffic regulations
  • Prepare for the learner permit test through guided sessions
  • Develop safe driving habits with professional lessons
  • Enhance job opportunities by obtaining a license
  • Gain independence and participate in community life

The driving program includes six information sessions and provides up to 30 professional driving lessons for eligible participants.

 

Who can join?

This program is open to:

  • Refugees and humanitarian entrants
  • Eligible visa holders who are not Australian citizens
  • Participants with a minimum of level 2 English proficiency
  • Individuals who hold a valid learner permit

Please note: Due to high demand, there is currently a 5-month waitlist for this program. If you would like to join the waitlist, please complete the Expression of Interest form below.

 

The Driving Program is supported by funding from the Australian Government through the Department of Social Services under the Settlement Engagement and Transition Support (SETS) Program
