Refugee Week event highlights with SMRC
SMRC loves getting out and engaging with the community and Refugee Week is one of our favourite times of the year!
City of Greater Dandenong Refugee Week Event
On Saturday, 22 June 2024, SMRC’s Settlement staff and HIPPY (Home Interaction program for Parents and Youngsters) tutors actively participated in the City of Greater Dandenong Refugee Week event. The day was filled with engaging activities and opportunities to connect with the community.
One of the highlights was SMRC’s popcorn machine, which quickly became a crowd favourite. The enticing aroma of fresh popcorn wafted through the air, drawing people to our stall. Alongside this, our dedicated HIPPY team organised various activities to keep the little ones entertained and engaged throughout the event.
Cardinia Fusion Festival
On the same day, SMRC Sttlement staff members Najma and Mirwais attended the Cardinia Fusion Festival, another Refugee Week event. Attendees enjoyed making delicious smoothies as they rode their way to healthiness on smoothie bikes. Additionally, Mirwais entertained the group with a captivating Capoeira dance performance, adding a lively and cultural touch to the festivities.
Knox Multicultural Networking Event
On 4 July 2024, SMRC was invited to attend the Knox Multicultural Networking Event, an evening of storytelling, cultural presentations, and networking. This event provided a wonderful opportunity to share the diversity of SMRC and our services. In 2020, SMRC partnered with Knox Council to successfully deliver the “Together Knox” project, and this event was a continuation of our commitment to fostering multicultural connections and support within the community.
SMRC’s Commitment to Inclusivity
These events provided valuable platforms for attendees to learn about SMRC’s commitment to fostering inclusivity and offering essential support to enhance the well-being and integration of refugees and migrants within the community. It was a wonderful opportunity to showcase our efforts and connect with those who benefit from our services.
SMRC remains dedicated to supporting refugees and migrants, ensuring they feel welcome and supported in their new home. Thank you to everyone who joined us and made these events a memorable success.
