Social Support Individual
The Social Support Individual Program is an on-going social support program offering friendship and assistance to those who are living at home and have not received or been allocated a Home Care Package.
This beneficial program supports socially isolated individuals through weekly or fortnightly visits by our culturally and linguistically diverse volunteers. Our friendly volunteers can also assist with transport, accompany these individuals to medical appointments, and shopping.
Friendly Visiting Program provides:
- one-on-one companionship
- improved physical and mental wellbeing
- an enhanced support network while living at home
- connection to cultural community
- a boost to self-esteem and self-confidence
- improved quality of life.
Each individual is matched with a volunteer on the basis of interests, experiences, culture and language. Volunteers provide transport assistance to medical appointments, shopping and other activities free of charge. Social support is provided weekly or fortnightly via face-to-face visiting, delivery of greeting cards, phone/video calling and email or digital communication.
The Friendly Visiting Program is funded by the Australian Government through the Department of Health under the Commonwealth Home Support Program.
