New hydrotherapy program helping other people regain strength and confidence

16 September 2025

Affordable support for healthy ageing

SMRC has launched a new Hydrotherapy Allied Health Program to help older people stay strong, mobile, and independent. While clients contribute just $14.80 per week over 12 weeks, the true cost of each session can be up to $200. Thanks to government funding through the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP), the majority of this cost is covered, making the program accessible and affordable.

Addressing a gap in reablement services

Many people over the age of 65 experience declining muscle strength, reduced mobility, and ongoing pain after illness, injury, or falls.

Hydrotherapy provides a safe, low-impact exercise option that supports both physical and emotional wellbeing.

The Hydrotherapy Allied Health Program is a structured, 12-week group program led by a qualified Exercise Physiologist with experience supporting older adults. Sessions will focus on:

  • Building muscle strength after illness, injury, or falls
  • Improving flexibility and mobility for daily activities
  • Enhancing balance, coordination, and agility to reduce falls risk
  • Supporting pain management with water-based exercise
  • Boosting mental and emotional wellbeing through group participation

Program details

  • Duration: 12 weeks, 1-hour weekly sessions (1–2pm)
  • Location: Genesis Health & Fitness, 63 Scott St, Dandenong VIC 3175
  • Facilitator: Exercise Physiologist from Healthy Movement Healthcare
  • Individual pre and post assessment

Support tailored to you

As a registered CHSP provider, SMRC will work with you to develop a care plan that reflects your goals, abilities, and support needs. This ensures the program complements your overall health and wellbeing, while connecting you with other services that may benefit you.

This program is designed to help older people stay active and connected, supporting long-term independence and quality of life. With most costs covered by government funding, clients can benefit from expert care at an affordable price.
