Anti-Racism Support Network
The Southeast Anti-Racism Support Network provides safe spaces for people to share and report experiences of racism across Melbourne’s southeast. The network is co-led by Southern Migrant and Refugee Centre (SMRC), South East Community Links (SECL), Wellsprings for Women, and the Centre for Multicultural Youth (CMY), working together to support communities, raise awareness of racism, and advocate for more inclusive and respectful environments.
The network serves communities across the City of Greater Dandenong, City of Casey, and Cardinia Shire. It is coordinated by Victoria University and is part of a broader effort to address racism across Victoria.
How SMRC can support you
SMRC’s trained intake and assessment staff can:
- Listen to your experience in a safe and supportive space
- Provide referrals to legal, emotional, or advocacy services
- Support you to report the incident if you choose to
- Document reports to help inform community advocacy
Information collected through the network helps identify patterns of racism and informs discussions with organisations such as local councils, police, and community stakeholders.
SMRC and our partner organisations can listen, provide guidance, and help connect you with appropriate support services. You can also learn more about anti-racism initiatives through Antiracism Victoria.
Why reporting racism matters
Racism can occur in many parts of everyday life, including workplaces, schools, public spaces, healthcare settings, and online. Many people choose not to report racism because they feel nothing will change. However, sharing experiences helps build a clearer picture of what individuals face and strengthens advocacy for fairer policies and safer communities.
Reporting is always voluntary, and support is provided at your pace and on your terms.
Our shared commitment
The Southeast Anti-Racism Support Network works alongside other local networks across Victoria to address racism and support communities affected by it.
Together, we advocate for equal dignity, fairness, and respect for all people, and we are committed to challenging racism in all its forms while supporting individuals and communities to speak out safely. You can find our joint position statement here.
