Mr Wickiramasingham was born in Jaffna, Sri Lanka.  He worked as a Marine Engineering Assistant before he migrated to Australia in 1989. He lives in Dandenong with his wife, children and grandchildren. From his arrival in Australia, Wicki took active interest in community activities in general.  He has been very passionate in promoting wellbeing of newly arrived CALD communities and particularly from the refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds.  In 1991 he was elected to serve on the board of the Hindu Society of Victoria where he worked with various ethnic groups. In 1993, he founded the Victorian Tamil Cultural Association and the Victorian Tamil Cultural School. Wicki served on the SMRC Board from 1994 – 2005 and was re-elected in 2015 after a break. In 1994 he established a Tamil community broadcasting radio station (Sanganatham) and from 1993 to 2007 he worked for SBS Radio as a national reporter. He has served the community as a school councillor in various schools in the Dandenong area, Justice of the Peace, Civil Marriage Celebrant, and is an accredited translator and interpreter. In 2005 his services were recognized by City of Greater Dandenong and was honoured by a local community newspaper as a ‘Living Treasure’ and ‘Local Hero.’ Wicki also received the Multicultural Excellence Award in 2002 and again in 2015. In 2019 he received Citizen of the Year award from the City of Greater Dandenong.
