Carer Respite

The SMRC Carer Respite Program is an extension of the Support for Carers Program and allows carers to take a break from their caring role.

The Carer Respite Program allows carers the opportunity to take a short-term break to complete much needed day-to-day tasks such as shopping, medical appointments, or time to focus on physical and mental wellbeing.

Carer needs are assessed by Program staff to determine the most suitable type of care respite. The Program also provides multiple services to a care-recipient based on their assessment and necessity.

Respite services provided through our direct care services include:

  • personal care, including showering, sponge baths, dressing, grooming, toilet accessibility, and transport assistance.
  • home care, including vacuuming, mopping, ironing, laundry, meal preparation, and shopping assistance.
  • respite care, including socialising, supervision, monitoring, and prompting medication usage when required.

All care workers are multilingual and have qualifications in Aged and Community Care.

The SMRC Carer Respite Program can be requested through the SMRC Support for Carers Program.

The Carer Respite Program is funded by the Victorian Government through the Department of Family, Fairness and Housing.
